Category B : Second Jump

Category B builds on the skills you acquired in Category A by improving your ability to relax and become more aware of your body position while in freefall. We will introduce techniques for turns and forward movement. Canopy skills are augmented by having the student plan the landing pattern and avoiding aircraft operations on the airport. Work continues toward perfecting flare timing.

As a part of the preparation for this jump, emergency procedures (learned in the First Jump Course from Category A) are reviewed. You will take responsibility for guarding your equipment while boarding the aircraft and riding to altitude.

The climbout and exit procedures are identical to Category A. Following the exit, a Circle of Awareness is performed along with handle touches.

On this as on all dives altitude awareness is paramount. On all dives a hard deck is defined below which no maneuvers are to be attempted. The student is expected to be aware of this altitude and indicate its approach during freefall to the instructors. On this dive the hard deck is 6,000', at which altitude you are to cease all maneuvers and indicate to your instructors that you are preparing for deployment.

You are to become familiar with the Basic Safety Requirements for Student Operations prior to your jump.

In order to progress to Category C you must display altitude awareness throughout the dive, wave off and deploy your canopy at the prescribed altitude of 5,500. Additionally your instructors will be looking for responsiveness to hand signals and a solid, correct neutral body position throughout the dive.
