Category F : Jumps Eight Through Ten

Tracking is the technique used to fly the maximum distance in the shortest amount of altitude. It is most commonly used at the end of group freefall dives to gain separation from the other jumpers for canopy deployment.

Unless you are jumping by yourself, you will be tracking away from the group (even if it's only your instructor) at the end of virtually every single dive throughout your skydiving career.

While tracking as a solo jumper it is important to pick the direction you fly carefully. Note jump run and make sure you are practicing your tracking in a direction perpendicular to the direction the plane is flying. Make sure the other jumpers on the load know you are practicing. While tracking, always keep an eye open for jumpers or canopies below you - it is possible to track a great distance and sometimes other jumpers on the load aren't as careful as you are and can end up below you.

At first when tracking it is easier to assume a delta position (feet a bit apart, hands a bit away from your sides) for increased stability. As you get more comfortable you can flatten out your track by relaxing your arch and tightening up your stomach muscles while moving your feet together and hands to your sides. At first you'll be looking forwards but as you progress you can roll your shoulders forwards and cup your chin to your chest and really try to spill air only off your fingers and toes.

In addition to tracking, Category F includes two clear and pulls (also known as Hop-n-Pops) where you will be exiting the aircraft at 5,500 and 3,500 feet respectively. These two jumps are required for your A License.

By the end of Category F you should be able to pack with supervision, and should be regularly be jumping your own pack jobs.
