Skydiving Frequently Asked Questions
Question: How long does it take to complete the first jump course?
Answer: The ground school course is generally between 6 and eight hours depending on the number of students in the class.
Question: How high will I jump from?
Answer: Depending on the type of aircraft (Cessna, Twin Otter, Super Otter, etc.), you will exit the plane anywhere from 10,000 to 14,000 feet.
Question: How fast will I fall?
Answer: Once you reach 'terminal velocity' you will be traveling at approximately 120 MPH. It takes roughly 10-12 seconds to fall the first 1,000 feet, and then you will fall 1,000 feet each 4-5 seconds after that.
Question: Will it feel like I'm falling, or will my stomach 'drop' like when I go on a roller coaster?
Answer:Your stomach will not 'drop' as it does on a roller coaster. Freefalling has more of a comfortable sensation of floating, and your body feels supported by the slight pressure of air against your body.
Question: Why is the canopy opening slower on a clear-and-pull (hop-n-pop) jump than on a skydive from full altitude?
Answer: You will experience a slower opening during a clear-and-pull because your fall rate is less upon initially exiting the aircraft than when you have reached terminal velocity.
